Leaving home to go home again

This is probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever dealt with in my life. Saying goobye to someone so special to you, not knowing when you’ll see them again.
I waited a little while to make this video, just because for some reason I couldn’t do it earlier. I was an emotional unstable person for a little while, every time I would think of my exchange year. But now I’m getting a little better. I miss my Kentucky home a lot, I always will, but I will have to make the best of whatever is coming in life. So I’m glad to say that I have made some videos to remember my exchange year at the best. 🙂 I hope you enjoy!

Oh, and I made another video a few weeks ago. I didn’t post it here because I forgot… So that’s why there are 2 videos.

The last day of school & graduation

I don’t really have an good excuse for uploading this video so late… I’m sorry. The next video will be sooner! So my high school part of my high school exchange year is over now. It’s crazy how fast this year flew by. I couldn’t wish for a better year here in Kentucky. My friends are the best, they even organized a graduation just for us exchange students! (because we couldn’t walk with our real graduation ceremony) I’m lucky to say that I can stay a little longer and enjoy my summer in Kentucky. I hope you enjoy the video.

A day in my life, PROM 2K16!

AMERICAN PROM, CHECK.

Hi, 
Prom was an amazing experience. It was a bit stressful but we all made it a really fun day. I am so happy with the group I went, I couldn’t ask for a better time. Experiencing the real American prom was always a dream of me and I am happy to say that it was as good as I thought it would be. It makes me sad at the same time, because it’s almost the end of the school year. But at least we can say that we (almost) end the school year with a bang!

 

 

Being in the prom committee, having an amazing group of friends to go with, dressing up, taking 100000 pictures, the sun was shining, waking up early… etc. I couldn’t have wished for a better day. This video just summarizes the day that I had. I am really lucky, because I could go to 2 proms this year. 🙂 I had a blast with both and this is making my experience even greater.

—I know a lot of people want a date for prom, because it’s American. But please don’t worry about that because there were some people in our group who didn’t have a date, and they still had a blast. Going with friends is a lot easier anyway, but if you have a date, or not, it either way is a lot of fun. I jusst wanted to say this to (future) exchange students, because I know some stressed out a little with not having a date. Please don’t. Because it is mostly for the pictures but you will take a lot of group pictures anyway. It’s a day to remember either way. 🙂 —

Here are some of the pictures we took. And btw, before you question why we took prom pictures with a goat.. Well, the goat was named after me so I just had to take some pictures with my namesake Linda the goat.

Showing Kentucky to my biological parents!

My parents are coming to Kentucky today!!!!
I am so excited, it has been 9 months since I’ve seen them. Of course we skype, like once a week, but I guess that you can understand that that is totally different. I can finally hug them and show them around where I’ve lived these couple of months. Only my mom and dad are coming. My brother and sister are staying home because they couldn’t manage to miss school. So we will come back one day in the future and then I will show my brother and sister around in Kentucky.

 My parents will stay here for 3 weeks! So we have a lot to do, which is good because I have a lot to show them. We’ll see all the wonderful things that Kentucky has to offer. And of course I am going to show them my school. They want to go to Tennessee and I would love to go with them, but I don’t know if I can figure something out, because the problem is that I don’t have vacation or anything.. So maybe I will just miss some days of school.. Maybe 🙂 (But stay in school kids.) I will let all of you know how it went somehow, maybe through a video or maybe with another blog post, we’ll see. I’m writing this in class right now, but after school me and my host family are going to drive up to Cincinnati to pick my parents up! I can’t wait! 😀

This is just a short quick little update, I will probably (if the footage is good) upload a video of all of this too. I haven’t made a new video in a while, which I really want to do but my laptop, phone, and iPod are all full….. (TOO MANY VIDEOS URGH..)

NEW VIDEO: National meeting in Florida

Hey!

Sorry for my absence lately, I will write a blog post about everything that happened soon! This video is about a trip that my family and I made from February 2 till February 6. So it has been a little while ago, but I just didn’t have time before to edit it. My host mom is an IEC (International exchange coordinator) by EF and they had a national meeting for all IEC’s in Florida. We made it a family trip and I’m so happy that I went! EF is the organization that I’m doing my exchange year with. I hope you like it 🙂 And please know that I really appreciate you watching my journey!

Snow days!

Since I’m flying towards the sun right now (to Florida, which makes me very excited) while I’m writing this, I decided to make a new blog post about the snowdays that I recently had. (hehehe…) Snow and a day off from school is the perfect combination. Who doesn’t want that?! 😉

So on January 18 it was Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, so we didn’t had to go to school. Nutcha and I didn’t do much that day because our parents were not at home. It was nice to have a day off…

We went to school the next day and then they tol dus that we probablyIMG_6849 had a snowday the next day! It made us very excited because we don’t have such a thing as snowdays in our countries. In Thailand, during the ‘winter’ the weather is just a little cooler than in the summer. But for me, I would never consider her winter a real winter hahaha. She never saw snow before so that got us both extra excited.

While in the Netherlands, when we have snow, we still have to go to school… on our bike… in the early morning… (sounds very sad, doesn’t it? Hahaha) I mean I don’t mind to ride my bike to school but when the weather is bad, I think you can understand that i’m not excited to do that.

So anyway, we had a snow day on Wednesday and we had some snow but it wasn’t too much. It was about 4 inches, 10 cm. So in the morning when we woke up, (after we slept in of course) we looked out of our window and we saw everything white! It was so pretty and I couldn’t wait to get up and to go outside. At first, Nutcha didn’t wanted to go outside because it was so cold for her, but in the afternoon sIMG_9655
he came and we shoveled the driveway. That was definitely a new experience for Nutcha. She likes the snow, but it’s just really cold for her because she never felt the cold like this before.

The roads didn’t clear up during the night so we had another snow day on Thursday. We didn’t do anything that day either because we couldn’t go anywhere.

During the night from Thursday to Friday it snowed a lot more. We got about 14 inches, 35 cm that time. It was so fun! We shoveled the driveway again but this time it was a lot harder. We did that, but it was still snowing so after about an hour there was snow laying there again… But at least it didn’t add up right. 🙂

IMG_9766The weekend was the same, there was still snow so we couldn’t go out somewhere and do something so we just stayed at home. Oh, but there was one t
me that we went out to get some groceries and we stopped by Starbucks to get some nice warm chocolate, because it was the weather for it, right? So we got that and drove home, but in the car I realized that I couldn’t drink the hot chocolate… Me and my host mom did a challenge that we couldn’t eat nor drink any junk food for 21 days, so no chocolate. (It’s over now… -luckily-) So I had to give my hot chocolate to my host dad who didn’t do the challenge. We successfully completed the challenge, and I’m proud of us both for doing it and completing it. 🙂

I like the snow  days but when you get them a lot of days in a row, it gets boring after a while. We did had to do NTI work, which means that we had homework for every class, every snow day. It was a lot of work but at least we don’t have to make up days at the end of the school year.

IMG_9666The weather here in Kentucky can be crazy sometimes. Because last week there was still snow laying on the ground, but the sun was also shining with 66 degrees Fahrenheit, 19 degrees Celsius. It’s not what I’m used to at home so I really like the weather changes. 🙂

Whenever I come back from my trip to Florida, there might be snow in Kentucky, so we’ll see.

Living abroad in Kentucky

Hey everyone,

I know I haven’t written any new posts in a while. I will try to write more because I know that some people rather read than watch videos. This video is just a random video. I just show a little bit what my school is like and what I did in the weekends. I love going to basketball games and being a part of the school spirit! EF is asking every exchange student what their new year resolutions are. My resolution is that I will take every chance that I get, to get to know new people. 🙂

 

As you might or might not know, I changed my high school a few months ago. I’m in a different host family now, than I started my year off with. I realized, I never wrote a post about it. My old host family just had a family situation, so the timing wasn’t right for me to be there. I still love them a lot, and they will also still be my host family. I just have 2 families now. IMG_7451

In my second vlog, I filmed a little bit in my old high school and in this new vlog I filmed in my new high school. Both schools are great and I have American friends in different counties now. 🙂 + I know exchange students in different counties from different countries hahaha. (That sounds confusing in my head..)

But anyway, I love meeting new people and getting to know them. That’s one of the most important things that I gain from this exchange year. They don’t have to be my friends immediately, just to get to know people and their culture is an amazing thing itself. I learn so much from other people, and they don’t even know it.
